Snopes.com: How Reliable is It?

For the past few years www.snopes.com has positioned itself, or others have labeled it as the 'tell-all, final word' on any comment, claim and e-mail.

But for several years, people tried to find out who exactly was behind snopes.com.

Only recently did Wikipedia get to the bottom of it - kind of makes you wonder what they were hiding.

Well, finally we know.

It is run by a husband and wife team - that's right, no big office of investigators and researchers, no team of lawyers...It's just a mom-and-pop operation that began as a hobby.

David and Barbara Mikkelson who live in the San Fernando Valley of California started the web site about 13 years ago - and they have no formal background or experience in investigative research.

After a few years it gained popularity believing it to be unbiased and neutral, but over the past couple of years people started asking questions about who was behind it and did they have a selfish motivation?

The reason for the questions - or skepticisms - is a result of snopes.com claiming to have the bottom line facts to certain questions or issues, when in fact, they have been proven wrong.

Also, there were criticisms that the Mikkelsons were not really investigating and getting to the 'true' bottom of various issues.

When I saw that Snopes had falsely claimed that Obama's Birth Certificate had been properly validated, I realized something was wrong with either their research and/or their credibility.

It seems something is seriously wrong with both.

Then a few months ago, when my State Farm agent Bud Gregg, in Mandeville, hoisted a political sign referencing Barack Obama and made a big splash across the Internet, supposedly, the Mikkelsons claim to have researched this issue before posting their findings on snopes.com.

In their statement they claimed the corporate office of State Farm pressured Gregg into taking down the sign, when in fact, nothing of the sort ever took place.

I personally contacted David Mikkelson (and he replied back to me) thinking that he would want to get to the bottom of this, and I gave him Bud Gregg's contact phone numbers. Bud was going to give him phone numbers to the big exec's at State Farm in Illinois who would have been willing to speak with him about it. He never called Bud.

In fact, I learned from Bud Gregg that no one from snopes.com ever contacted anyone with State Farm.

Yet snopes.com issued a statement as the 'final factual word' on the issue as if they did all their homework and got to the bottom of things. Not!

Then it has been learned the Mikkelsons are very Democrat and extremely liberal.

As we all now know from this presidential election, liberals have a purpose agenda to discredit anything that appears to be conservative.

There has been much criticism lately over the internet with people pointing out the Mikkelsons liberalism revealing itself in their web site findings. Gee, what a shock!

So, I say this now to everyone who goes to www.snopes.com to get what they think to be the bottom line facts:

Proceed with caution. Take what it says at face value and nothing more. Use it only to lead you to their references where you can link to and read the sources for yourself.

Plus, you can always Google a subject and do the research yourself.

It now seems apparent that's all the Mikkelsons do.

After all, I can personally vouch from my own experience for their 'not' fully looking into things. Gary McCaleb 2255 Western Park Dr. Dallas, TX 75211-7748

Did Barack Obama Lie About His Birth to Become President?

As a highly regarded young detective, Neil Sankey was once seconded to elite Scotland Yard units hunting down IRA bombers, dangerous anarchists and organised crime barons.

Today, however, almost 30 years after quitting Hampshire constabulary to become a private investigator in California, he is wrestling with an inquiry that is as controversial as it is complex; one that makes that his former police work seem mundane by comparison.

Now aged 64, and semi-retired, Mr Sankey is attempting to prove that Barack Obama is guilty of the most audacious act of fraud in U.S political history, having become President when he was not even eligible to run for office...

Congress Must Hold Obama Accountable

President Barack Obama continues to embarrass the United States of America with his bowing to heathen emperors, ignorant proclamations and inept appointees. Obama, fawning and inexperienced, described China's economic growth to a Shanghai student audience as “an accomplishment unparalleled in human history.”

Obama Birth Certificate Part of a Citizenship Issue That Will Not Go Away

Challenging a sitting President on eligibility is outside the comfort level of most Americans because we assume that such an item is fully vetted beforehand. However the Obama eligibility under Article II Section 1 of the US Constitution persists. The issue is that Obama was not born in the US and thus is not eligible to be President. Folks pursuing this issue are called birthers: a label now an official word in the Oxford Dictionary defined as “a conspiracy theorist who challenges President Obama’s U.S. birth certificate.”...
GOP Rep. Garrett: 'I Agree' That Obama Should Produce Birth Certificate

It’s been a little while since a good confrontation between a birther and a member of Congress, but here’s one from last week: a constituent of Rep. Scott Garrett (R-N.J.) asking his congressman why Republicans won’t do anything about the “eligibility issue.” It makes for awkward viewing, as Garrett’s staff clearly wants a change of subject from an audience that seems to be fine with pushing the question. At around 4:40 in the video, the congressman finally engages...

Nathan Deal Calls on Obama to Produce Birth Certificate Proving He's Eligible for Presidency

Congressman running for governor calls on president to produce birth certificate

It's the question that keeps poking its head up through piles of debunking documents: Is Barack Obama eligible to be president?

U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal says Obama can dispel it with a birth certificate showing he's a U.S. native and therefore qualified for the White House...

Urgent! Pastor Manning Visited By the CIA

Pastor James David Manning, one of President Obama’s most vocal and outspoken critics, has just released a video in which he claims that on the afternoon of November 16th, 2009, while at his ATLAH World Missionary Church, he was visited by two CIA agents. Manning says the agents claimed that they were from Homeland Security and were accompanied by two NYPD Detectives.

Pastor Manning also said he expects to be arrested within the next few days and charged with “the threat against the life of a U.S. President”, and he believes that this arrest is imminent.

However, Manning says he welcomes the arrest and will not attempt to resist. He believes it is possible that God will use his arrest to finally bring about the truth regarding Obama’s citizenship.

9th Circuit Asked: Do Courts Enforce Constitution

Challenge to Obama's eligibility moves to appeals panel

The stage is being set for a major ruling from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on whether the U.S. judiciary actually can enforce the provisions of the Constitution.

The basic question is being raised in an appeal of a district judge's decision to dismiss a legal challenge to Barack Obama's constitutional eligibility to be president...

Analysts: Fuzzy Obama Draft Doc Doesn't Prove Forgery

There have been dozens of legal challenges to President Barack Obama's status as a "natural born citizen" – as required by Article 2, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution, which states, "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President."...
